(Temecula, California) — A former Executive Director of the Professional Numismatists Guild (PNGdealers.org), Paul L. Koppenhaver, passed away at the age of 80 in California on December 1, 2012.
Koppenhaver served as PNG Executive Director from 1978 to 1995, and he received the PNG’s esteemed Abe Kosoff Founders Award in 1983. The award is presented in recognition of a PNG member who made significant contributions to the organization or to the numismatic community in general the previous year.
“Paul Koppenhaver served the PNG with distinction during a decade and a half of significant growth and changes in the numismatic marketplace, from the boom-to-bust period of the late 1970s and early 1980s, to steady growth and expansion in the early 1990s,” said Robert Brueggeman, the current PNG Executive Director who succeeded Koppenhaver in 1995.
“Paul was a friend and mentor to hundreds of dealers nationwide, guiding them and the PNG in the organization’s code of knowledge, integrity and responsibility,” said PNG President Jeffrey Bernberg.
